Ellen Fein and Lance Houpt
Ellen Fein, an author of “The Rules:
Time-Tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right,” dresses like a
Rules Girl — in miniskirts that show off her slim legs, scoop-neck shirts,
high heels and long blond hair as straight as taffy...
The most important rule, they say, is never,
ever call a man, since it takes away the challenge, and without a challenge
his interest will plummet. “Trust in the natural order of things,” the book
advises. “Namely, that man pursues woman.”

The all new dating rules for single
women
'Because many women are successful go-getters in business they mistakenly
assume they can be aggressive with men too,' adds Schneider. 'They want to
ask him out, buy him dinner and sleep with him on the first date but,
instead, we say women should disappear between dates and be very
mysterious.'

Find lasting love with The
Rules
NEVER chase a man. We've heard that advice a zillion times - but does it actually work? Well,
Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider think so. The authors of bestselling dating
bible The Rules have made a career out of advising women never to make the
first move or be too available. Their '35 Time-Tested Secrets for
Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right' caused controversy on its release back in
1995. Yet it's still going strong today, with celebs like BEYONCE as fans.

Romancing the vote - and the wives - on camera
In OBAMA'S biographical video, he
rehashed his Rules courtship with wife Michelle. He said he noticed she
wasn't wearing a ring when they met. "I offered to buy her ice cream." Be
still our voting hearts.
The message got through - at least to some
in the romance business. "It's wonderful to have a husband that says his
wife is a big part of his life," says Sherrie Schneider, co-author with
Ellen Fein of the best-selling dating book, "The Rules." "It's life
affirming and it's love affirming."
It's also good for the dating business.
"The Rules" authors now run a dating consultation service ($300 per e-mail
consultation), and singles who see a public figure doting on his wife - be
it Michael Douglas or George W. Bush, Schneider said - are often prompted to
get in touch. "I want that," they say. "Everyone likes the knight in shining
armor that gets the girl." |

For
most of my life, I was not a Rules girl. If a guy called, I called
right back. There was no intrigue. Then, about 10 years ago, I read
the book and it became my bible. —

Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider tell
In Touch that overeager Jessica Simpson broke every rule in their book.
"She needs to be more subdued," says Schneider.
1. SHE CALLED TOO MUCH
Men love a girl they can't get, Schneider says. "Wait 24 hours to return a
call or text. When guys get instant gratification, the intrigue is over. If
there's no chase, there's no challenge. It's too easy."

The Publishers Weekly article
The Authors of the highly successful series of
Warner titles called
The Rules, Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider, have
become consultants in the area of women's relationships, offering seminars
and naturally, a busy website. Out of the latter they have gained the
realization, in the past two years, that a vast amount of the the activity
connected with such relationships is now conducted online, via a large
number of sites and chat rooms. Hence their new title:
The Rules for Online Dating (and /or Just E-mailing Men). Agent Mary Tahan
at Clausen, Mays & Tahan sold world rights in the book at auction to Pocket
Books senior editor Mitchell Ivers. The plan is to publish next summer, as a
lead title in Pocket's new original trade paperback publishing program.
